(our theme is adapted from the theme of the coming 50th International Eucharistic Congess in June 2012 at Dublin, Ireland - "The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another")
“...Behold, the Lamb of God.” (Jn 1:36)
Santo Niño is our Lord Jesus Christ who at every Mass is raised with the words: “Behold the Lamb of God...” as we are invited to partake in the Holy Communion that takes place within the whole liturgical celebration of the Holy Mass, the “supper of the Lamb”. We hear these same words in the Gospel reading in our celebration of the Feast of Santo Niño. He is our Lord who in the Last Supper, the night before he was sacrificed on the cross, prayed ‘that [we] may be one’ (Jn 17:11; 22) and instituted the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist not only as memorial of his sacrifice, but also as a sacrament of communion. As we celebrate this feast, we give more focus to this meaning of the Eucharist among its many rich and deep meanings and symbolisms. We make it our prayer for grace and our pledge for action in this celebration to cooperate with God’s will for our unity – our communion: reflecting the unity of the three divine persons in one God; drawing all the baptised (the living, the suffering departed and the saints) into the one mystical Body of Christ; drawing humanity into unity with divinity. Let our sacramental act of Holy Communion be efficaciously implemented as we go forth from every Eucharistic celebration to live eucharistically; building or rebuilding communion and fellowship (‘koinonia’) in our homes, in our communities, in our parishes, in our societies, in our world. We make this happen with the true spirit of mutual Christian charity and service (‘diakonia’), forgiveness and reconciliation, for one another and for the entire human family of God. May we truly become bread broken to feed one another (that everyone is ‘fed’) and wine poured out as an act of sacrifice to redeem one another from sin (by forgiving and reconciling with one another). Indeed, may the Eucharist usher and gather all things in the universe to be made one in Christ (cf. 1 Cor 15:28)! And then we can sincerely acclaim:
Viva Señor Santo Niño!!!
